New disposal solution for the future.

Almost all countries with good infrastructure discharge solid waste together with wastewater via sewer pipes to a treatment plant. The multi-stage purification process that follows is complex and cost intensive.
The growing population and increasing pollution pose major challenges for a system that is over 100 years old and generate annual maintenance costs in the billions.

LEFT solves this problem by making a smart adjustment that delivers a cost-effective and holistic concept for a clean and sustainable future.

The sustainable solution – LEFT

Together with its engineering partners, the LEFT start-up company has developed a concept that tackles the increase of solid toilet waste at its root. At the same time, it prevents the contamination of groundwater due to damaged pipes. The solid waste is separated from the wastewater, sealed in biodegradable bags, and discharged right after the toilet is flushed. This simple system change allows considerable savings of public funds and offers advantages on all relevant levels: population growth, cost efficiency, environmental protection, and public health.

LEFT > the infrastructure solution for our modern society

LEFT works with two interconnected concepts that meet the needs of a growing population:

Waste disposal concept for new buildings:

Solids in floatable bags are flushed to an underground deposit close-by where they are temporarily stored. The collection of the solid waste is carried out by the municipal waste disposal or recycling services.
This intermediate storage in a local depot comes into play in all new buildings.

Waste disposal concept for existing buildings:

Solids in floatable bags are flushed to the sewage treatment plant where they are skimmed off for further use.

The separate treatment of substance flows enables an environmentally friendly disposal

with a system change

LEFT technology provides convenience on all levels

Already well advanced:
The making of the functional prototype

The LEFT system is complex, but easy to implement. It is hidden behind the wall of the toilet in a compact, easily accessible mounting frame. A built-in web server makes remote diagnostics and cost-effective repairs easy.

The system's regular self-cleaning mechanism ensures a high level of comfort for users. The use of internally conditioned gray water saves precious tap water without lowering hygiene standards.

LEFT > An investment in a healthy
and sustainable future

Today's sewer and sewage treatment system is generating increasing maintenance costs and insufficiently protecting the groundwater from contamination. For this reason, Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, proposed in 2012 the introduction of a decentralized system with a separate treatment of substance flows in wastewater. This would not only eliminate the need for any major expansion of the sewer system due to a growing population but also promote the use of resources.

This is where LEFT comes into play. In addition to limiting pollutant flows, the patent-pending LEFT system takes pressure off the existing infrastructure, thereby making significant savings in the billions. To keep production costs and prices marketable, the LEFT system needs to be produced in large series. This is where we need your support. Let us go down this new path together – it is worth it.
Go LEFT, act right.
